The dissolution of Gran Colombia refers to the disintegration of the political structures and the central government of said South American country, which culminated in the creation of three independent states: the Republic of Venezuela, the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of New Granada. The main ideological leader for the creation of Gran Colombia was the Liberator Simón Bolívar, who intended to create a nation strong enough to compete economically with the European powers and maintain its independence. It was the most ambitious dream of unity in Latin America.
