The Dayak Desa War or Majang Desa War was an armed uprising by the Dayak Desa tribe, and later Indonesian nationalists, in West Kalimantan against the Japanese Empire and the Dutch East Indies during World War II. The war was initially caused by the local population's opposition against the rōmusha system and disappointment with Japanese occupation (which was initially thought to be liberation from European rule). In the initial phase of Japanese occupation, several Japanese companies entered the region to gain natural resources in order to support the Japanese war effort in the Pacific. Occupying Japanese forced locals to work for free for these companies, mainly in coal mining and timber production. In the initial phase of Japanese occupation, several Japanese companies entered the region to gain natural resources in order to support the Japanese war effort in the Pacific. Occupying Japanese forced locals to work for free for these companies, mainly in coal mining and timber production. After that, a Japanese foreman working in a company wanted to marry the daughter of Pang Linggan, a respected Dayak chief in the region, which caused more tension between locals and the Japanese. Dayak tribes in the region initiated mangkuk merah (red bowl) ritual, as a sign to mobilise men from villages and prepare for war. The Japanese were driven out of the Borneo interior in June 1945, but returned on 17 July and continued until 31 August 1945 when Japanese forces there surrendered and left the region, replaced by Allied forces including the Dutch, who would later be opposed again until recognition of Indonesian independence in 1949. - Perang Dayak Desa adalah perang antara Suku Dayak Desa dan pasukan Kekaisaran Jepang pada masa pendudukan Jepang di Kalimantan Barat. Perang yang berlangsung tahun 1944 hingga 1945 di Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perlakuan Jepang yang sewenang-wenang terhadap Suku Dayak Desa. Pada awal pendudukan Jepang, dua buah perusahaan masuk ke Kalimantan Barat, yakni Nomura di bidang pertambangan dan Sumitomo di bidang perkayuan. Akibat romusa yang diterapkan oleh Jepang, banyak penduduk yang meninggal karena bekerja pada perusahaan perkayuan ini. Pada 13 Mei 1945, anak perempuan Pang Linggan (tokoh masyarakat Dayak Desa), hendak dikawini oleh seorang mandor Jepang yang bernama Osaki. Perkawinan ini tidak disetujui oleh Pang Linggan. Rakyat lalu menyiapkan strategi untuk menyerang Osaki, yang kemudian tewas tanpa perlawanan berarti. Hal ini menyebabkan pertempuran pecah di perusahaan kayu. Suku-suku Dayak dari Ketapang hingga Sekadau berkumpul melalui mangkuk merah. Wilayah Meliau berhasil direbut oleh Suku Dayak pada Juni 1945, meskipun kembali dikuasai Jepang antara 17 Juli dan 31 Agustus 1945, hingga pasukan Jepang menyerah pada Sekutu dan meninggalkan wilayah tersebut.
