The Daphne Major finch, also known as the Big Bird lineage, is a hybrid of the Española cactus finch (Geospiza conirostris) and the medium ground finch (Geospiza fortis). The breeding of two distinct parent species gave rise to a new lineage which only exists on Daphne Major island in the Galápagos. It is reproductively isolated from the other species, demonstrating homoploid hybrid speciation. The Daphne Major finch is seen as an example of human observed speciation.
