Coordination of Information on the Environment (CORINE) is a European programme initiated in 1985 by the European Commission, aimed at gathering information relating to the environment on certain priority topics for the European Union (air, water, soil, land cover, coastal erosion, biotopes, etc.). Since 1994, the European Environment Agency (EEA) integrated CORINE in its work programme. EEA is responsible for providing objective, timely and targeted information on Europe's environment.

- Corine Land Cover (CLC) est une base de données européenne d’occupation biophysique des sols. Ce projet, lancé en 1985 est piloté par l'Agence européenne de l'environnement et couvre 39 États. Cette base de données est l'une des composantes du projet européen GMES et fait partie du champ de la directive européenne INSPIRE. Cinq versions ont été produites : 1990, 2000, 2006, 2012 et 2018. Seit Mitte der 1980er Jahre werden für dieses Programm digitale Satellitenbilder von Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union einheitlich erfasst und hinsichtlich der Flächennutzung ausgewertet. Dabei wird insbesondere auf Veränderungen der Nutzung und der Zusammenhang mit Umweltproblemen geachtet. Daten sowie die daraus entwickelten Karten sind die Grundlage für die Bestimmung von Biotoptypen, das Ausmaß von Flächenversiegelung und weitergehendes Umweltmonitoring. Die Daten werden von der Europäischen Umweltagentur in Kopenhagen geprüft. Die Daten aus den beiden ersten Aufnahme-Epochen 1990 und 2000 (vor allem von Landsat 7) stehen der Öffentlichkeit bereits als in Maßstäben um 1:100.000 zur Verfügung. Die dritte Erfassung mit dem Bezugsjahr 2006, die höhere Auflösung hat, wurde im Januar 2010 abgeschlossen. Aktuell stehen CORINE-Landbedeckungsdaten mit dem Referenzjahr 2012 ab dem Jahr 2014 zur Verfügung.
