The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) is a quasi-judicial body tasked with promoting and protecting human rights and collective (peoples') rights throughout the African continent as well as interpreting the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and considering individual complaints of violations of the Charter. Die Kommission entstand durch das Inkrafttreten der Afrikanischen Erklärung der Menschenrechte und der Rechte der Völker am 21. Oktober 1986, die bereits am 27. Juni 1981 von der OAU angenommen worden war. Die ersten Mitglieder der Kommission wurden auf der 23.
