Dit seizoen streden zestien clubs in de Eredivisie. Nieuw door promotie uit de Eerste divisie waren Willem II en Elinkwijk. Zij namen de plaats in van NAC en Sittardia, die gedegradeerd waren. Daarnaast was dit het eerste seizoen voor de fusieclub FC Twente, waarin Sportclub Enschede en Enschedese Boys waren opgegaan. De ploeg kreeg de Eredivisieplaats van SC Enschede. (nl)
