The championship was contested over eleven races commencing on 30 March at Snetterton and concluding on 28 September at the same circuit. It was the sixth British Saloon Car Championship. The championship was won by Jack Sears driving a Ford Cortina GT, a Ford Galaxie and a Ford Cortina Lotus.

Het kampioenschap werd voor de tweede keer gewonnen door Jack Sears, die ook in het eerste seizoen kampioen werd, met een Ford Cortina GT, een Ford Galaxie en een Ford Cortina Lotus. De kampioen van 1961 John Whitmore eindigde als tweede in een Austin Mini Cooper, en Formule 1 wereldkampioen Graham Hill eindigde als derde in een Jaguar Mk II 3.8 en Ford Galaxie. Dit was ook het eerste BSCC-seizoen waarin er geen onafhankelijke coureurs, zonder team, werden geklasseerd in de eindstand van het kampioenschap. (nl)
