Participaron 8 equipos campeones de las ligas regionales de fútbol del Imperio alemán.La competencia no estaba finalizada, sin embargo, la Federación Alemana de Fútbol (DFB) anuló el campeonato debido a una protesta de Karlsruher FV. Karlsruhe había protestado por el hecho de que los partidos no se han jugado en campo neutral, como se muestra en las reglas. - 1903/04 was het tweede Duitse voetbalkampioenschap ingericht door de DFB. Het kampioenschap werd evenwel niet beëindigd en de finale werd afgelast. Dit kwam door een protest van Karlsruher FV. De regel van de competitie was dat wedstrijden op neutraal terrein gespeeld zouden worden maar omdat dat financieel niet haalbaar was werd dit niet gedaan waarop KFV protesteerde na een 6-1 nederlaag op het veld van Britannia. - The 1904 German football championship was the second competition to determine the national champion of Germany. The competition was not fully played, however, as the German Football Association (DFB) aborted it due to a protest by Karlsruher FV. Karlsruhe had protested the fact that matches had not been played on neutral ground as was stipulated by the rules. The DFB had already ignored this rule for financial reasons in the previous year, but this time Karlsruhe argued that some of their players could not travel to the match in Berlin and this had caused Karlsruhe's defeat. - Die zweite Deutsche Fußballmeisterschaft fand vom 24. April bis zum 22. Mai 1904 statt, brachte aber keinen neuen Meister hervor.
