Most of his research has been focused on the doctor-patient interface and how technologies can be used to promote high quality care and improve physician well-being. He has written over 250 academic papers and book chapters and 7 books. Yellowlees was the author and presenter of The Medscape Psychiatry Minute, video editorials that were published every month on WebMD/Medscape from 2009–2019. Yellowlees was President of the American Telemedicine Association in 2017, and was elected as a fellow of the Australasian College of Health Informatics in 1999, and as a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists in 2022. He is a Fellow of the American Telemedicine Association, a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. (en)
