- المعهد العالي للفنون المسرحية هو مؤسسة جامعية تعد الطلبة لنيل درجة الإجازة في الفنون المسرحية في أقسام اختصاصية متعددة، كما يوفر فرصاً للدراسات العليا وللبحث العلمي في الدراسات المسرحية كما يقوم بعقد دورات متخصصة للعاملين في حقول الفنون المسرحية على اختلافها كذلك للمهتمين بها. ومقره في دمشق سوريا، أنشأ عام 1977 هدفه تخريج الاختصاصيين في مختلف فروع الفنون المسرحية لتحقيق نهضة مسرحية سورية أصيلة. سابقا كان يوجد قسم للتمثيل والموسيقا والنقد المسرحي فقط وأضيف إليها أقسام جديدة مؤخرا. - El Instituto Superior de Arte Dramático (en árabe, 'المعهد العالي للفنون المسرحية') fue fundado en Damasco, Siria en 1977 por varios académicos, tales como Saadallah Wannous. El Instituto anunció una nueva fase en el desarrollo del teatro y de los estudios dramáticos en Siria, que comenzó con la preparación de la próxima generación de actores sobre una base académica. El Instituto incluye tres departamentos: Actuación, Crítica teatral y Arte dramático. El Instituto ha logrado rápidamente dejar su huella en el teatro y la escena de las artes dramáticas con presentaciones de clase mundial que se presentan en Kuwait, Egipto, Jordania, Líbano, Alemania y muchos otros. - The Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts (Arabic: الْمَعْهَدُ الْعَالِي لِلْفُنُونِ الْمَسْرَحِيَّةِ, romanized: al-Maʿhad al-ʿĀlī li l-Funūn al-Masraḥīyah) was founded in Damascus, Syria, in 1977 by academics such as the playwright Saadallah Wannous, theatre critic Ghassan al-Maleh and professor of theatre at Damascus University, Hannan Kassab Hassan. The institute initiated a new phase in the development of theatre in Syria through the preparation of a new generation of actors in aspects of modern dramatic arts on an academic basis, among them actor Fares Al-Helou and playwright Liwaa Yazji. The institute initially included five departments: Acting, Literary Criticism, Dramatic Arts, Scenography, and Theatre Techniques, with a department for Dance added later. Another notable artists of the young generation is Noura Mourad, specialised in dance and movement in theatre, who later also became a teacher at the institute. She is also director of Leish Troupe, an ensemble for movement theatre that won the prize for best scenography in the Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theater in 2000. The institute has succeeded in rapidly making its mark on the theatre and dramatic arts scene of the Middle East, with performances in Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Germany and other countries. In his academic study on the social position of intellectuals and market forces, exemplified by commercial TV in Syria, Adwan Ziad, a former professor at the institute, "explores how the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts (HIDA) in Damascus achieved an exceptional degree of prestige in Syrian cultural life. Although operating under a dictatorship in a conservative country, HIDA still enjoyed unusual margins of curricula autonomy and free expression in a country that repressed other cultural and educational sectors."
