- The coat of arms of Medellín is the heraldic emblem that represents the Colombian city of Medellín, capital of the department of Antioquia. It has its origin in the concession of its use by King Charles II of Spain by means of the Royal Decree given in Madrid on March 31, 1678. The escutcheon also recalled in some of its elements the ancient coat of arms of the Spanish town of Medellín, in Extremadura, from which the city takes its name. The coat of arms, together with the flag and the anthem, are recognized as official symbols of the municipality of Medellín according to Decree No. 151 of February 20, 2002. In addition, the escutcheon as a symbol of the city is part of the institutional image of the municipal administration, which is why it is present in ceremonial acts, on official stationery, in street furniture or in public works, although there are different stylistic versions between the City Hall and the Municipal council. The escutcheon was also adopted by other entities such as the Archdiocese of Medellín, differentiated by the archbishop's cross on the seal and the name of the archdiocese as the motto. Likewise, the arms of the city are also present in the first quarter of the emblem of the University of Medellín. (en)
- El escudo de armas de Medellín es el emblema heráldico que representa a la ciudad colombiana de Medellín, capital del departamento de Antioquia. Tiene su origen en la concesión de su uso por el rey Carlos II de España por medio de la Real cédula dada en Madrid el 31 de marzo de 1678. El blasón recordaba así también en algunos de sus elementos al antiguo escudo de armas de la localidad española de Medellín, en Extremadura, de la cual toma su nombre la ciudad. El escudo, junto con la y el himno, tienen el reconocimiento de símbolos oficiales del municipio de Medellín según el Decreto No. 151 del 20 de febrero de 2002. Además, el blasón como símbolo de la ciudad forma parte de la imagen institucional de la administración municipal, por lo cual está presente en los actos protocolarios, en la papelería oficial, en el mobiliario urbano o en las obras públicas, existiendo no obstante diferentes versiones estilísticas entre la Alcaldía y el Concejo Municipal. El blasón también fue adoptado por otras entidades como la Arquidiócesis de Medellín, diferenciándose por llevar al timbre la cruz arzobispal y por divisa el nombre de la arquidiócesis. Igualmente, las armas de la ciudad también están presentes en el primer cuartel del emblema de la Universidad de Medellín. (es)
