- Die Harleian Collection ist eine Sammlung von Handschriften, die von dem britischen Staatsmann Robert Harley, 1. Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer (* 1661 † 1724) und seinem Sohn Edward (1689–1741) zusammengetragen wurde. Neben den Cotton MSS und den Sloane MSS gehören die Harley MSS zum Gründungsbestand des Britischen Museums. Sie wurden 1753 vom Parlament erworben. Die Harleian Collection und die anderen Altbestände der Bibliothek des Britischen Museums sind jetzt Teil der 1998 eröffneten British Library.Zu den bekannten Handschriften gehören die Historia Brittonum (Harley 3859), die Harley Latin Gospels (Harley 1775), ein in Unziale geschriebenes Evangeliar aus dem 6. Jahrhundert, das Harley-Evangeliar und der am Hofe Rogers II. in Palermo um 1150 entstandene dreisprachige Psalter (Harley 5786). In der linken der drei Spalten steht der griechische Text in der Fassung der Septuaginta, in der mittleren der lateinische Text in der Übersetzung des Hieronymus und in der rechten Spalte die arabische Übersetzung des melchitischen Diakons Abu'l-Fath 'Abdall-h ibn al-Fadl ibn 'Abdall-h al-Mutr-n al-Antaki aus Antiochien aus dem 11. - The Harleian Library, Harley Collection, Harleian Collection and other variants (Latin: Bibliotheca Harleiana) is one of the main "closed" collections (namely, historic collections to which new material is no longer added) of the British Library in London, formerly the library of the British Museum. The collection comprises 7,660 manuscripts, including 2,200 illuminated manuscripts, more than 14,000 original legal documents; and more than 500 rolls. It was assembled by Robert Harley (1661–1724) and his son Edward (1689–1741). In 1753, it was purchased for £10,000 by the British government. Together with the collections of Sir Robert Cotton (the Cotton library) and Hans Sloane (the Sloane library) it formed the basis of the British Museum's collection of manuscripts, which were transferred to the new British Library in 1973. The collection contains illuminated manuscripts spanning the early Middle Ages to the Renaissance. There are important early British manuscripts, many from Western Europe, and several Byzantine manuscripts in Greek and other languages. (en)

A coleção é composta por 7 660 manuscritos, incluindo 2 200 manuscritos iluminados, mais de 14 000 documentos legais originais, e mais de 500 rolos. Foi formada por (1661–1724) e seu filho (1689–1741). Em 1753, foi comprada por £ 10 000 pelo governo britânico.
