Norbert Zajac and his wife Jutta bought in 1975 a pet store in Duisburg-Meiderich. When he could not enlarge this store, he finally moved to a former factory building in Duisburg-Neumühl. According to Zajac, the shop has 200 employees, including veterinarians and biologists. It sells animals and equipment for €15 million a year. The shop is visited by more than 1 million visitors every year. Norbert Zajac has met criticism by animal protectionists. For example, he sells dog puppies which is legal but not allowed by the professional association of pet shop owners (of which he is not a member). (en)
