A superabsorbent polymer (SAP) (also called slush powder) is a water-absorbing hydrophilic homopolymers or copolymers that can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of a liquid relative to its own mass. Super‐ Absorbent Polymers are crosslinked in order to avoid dissolution. There are three main classes of SAPs: 1. Cross‐linked polyacrylates and polyacrylamides 2. Cellulose‐ or starch‐acrylonitrile graft copolymers 3. Cross‐linked maleic anhydride copolymers IUPAC definition
