The SS Poseidon is a fictional transatlantic ocean liner that first appeared in the 1969 novel The Poseidon Adventure by Paul Gallico and later in four films based on the novel. The ship is named after the god of the seas in Greek mythology.

Dans le premier film, le paquebot effectue un voyage dans la mer Méditerranée pour son dernier voyage en direction de l'Italie, la Grèce et l'Afrique et comme dans le roman, le paquebot est chaviré par une vague à la suite d'un séisme sous-marin au sud de la Crète lors du réveillon de la Nouvelle-Année. La suite du film s'appelle Le Dernier Secret du Poseidon, où l'épave du paquebot flotte toujours à la surface avant de couler quelques heures plus tard. Dans le remake de 2006, le paquebot est britannique et doit arriver à New York. Dans le premier film et les deux remakes, un groupe de survivants tentent de se frayer un chemin vers la quille renversé du navire, qui les mènera au sauvetage.

Natomiast w 1979 roku film doczekał się sequela Po tragedii Posejdona, wyreżyserowanego przez Irwina Allena. We wszystkich filmach o Posejdonie w sylwestrową noc statek wypływa z Nowego Jorku do Grecji z setkami pasażerów na pokładzie. We wszystkich filmach (oprócz filmu Posejdon z 2005 roku) podczas balu w sali balowej w statek uderza 30-metrowa fala, przewracając go do góry dnem. Natomiast w filmie Posejdon z 2005 roku statek wysadza grupa terrorystów. Głównym tematem, podobnie jak w filmach o Titanicu, jest zatonięcie statku. Film Po tragedii Posejdona zaczyna się sceną zatonięcia statku. Specjalne oddziały ratunkowe ratują ocalałych pasażerów statku. Liczą też na złoto i cenne kamienie. Cały plan zostaje zrujnowany, kiedy w pobliżu pojawia się nikczemny kapitan Svevo, który liczy na cenny ładunek znajdujący się we wraku statku. Jednak i jego plan zostaje zrujnowany. On i jego załoga zostają uwięzieni w samym wraku statku. W pierwszym filmie z 1972 r. w roli statku Posejdon wystąpił słynny statek pasażerski RMS Queen Mary, wycofany rok wcześniej z Atlantyku i sprzedany do USA na pływający hotel i kombinat rozrywkowy.
