Robertson est surtout connu pour son projet de réforme de la propriété des terres et en particulier le "Robertson Land Acts" de 1861, qui chercha à augmenter la proportion de terres de la Couronne, propriétés inaliénables que n'importe qui pouvait mettre en valeur et de briser ainsi le monopole des squatteurs.
