Hyrtacina or Hyrtakina (Ancient Greek: Ὑρτακίνα), also written as Hyrsacina or Hyrsakina (Ὑρσακίνα), or Artacina or Artakina (Ἀρτάκινα), was a city of ancient Crete, which, little as we learn of its position from Ptolemy and Stephanus of Byzantium, yet we may safely infer from the former's words that it was situated to the southeast of Polyrrhenia, and to the west of Lappa. The Periplus of Pseudo-Scylax teaches us more respecting its site; it places it on the south of the island, and to the south of the Dictynnean temple of Artemis and the district. These indications agree well with the situation of the ruins discovered by Robert Pashley on Kastri hill between the existing villages Temenia and Papadiana.

El área estuvo habitada al menos desde la Edad del Hierro temprana pero su época de mayor esplendor se sitúa en el siglo IV a. C. Es citada en el Periplo de Pseudo-Escílax Entre los siglos IV y III a. C. formó parte de una liga de ciudades llamada «Federación de los montañeses» (Ομοσπονδία των Ορείων), junto a Éliro, Liso, Sía, Tarra y Pecilasio. Es mencionada también en la lista de las ciudades cretenses que firmaron una alianza con Eumenes II de Pérgamo en el año 183 a. C. (es)

Les seves ruïnes són al turó de Kastri i inclouen part de les muralles ciclòpies als costats nord i oest d'uns 500 metres de longitud. Els altres costats eren protegits per un tallat de la muntanya. S'observa la dificultat que hi havia per accedir a la porta d'entrada, ja que la única entrada tenia al seu interior diverses muralles en forma de passadissos per on havia de passar l'enemic en cas de voler entrar a la ciutat. C. En estas monedas figuran las inscripciones Λ-Υ, ΥΡ-ΛΙ o ΥΡ-ΛΙΣΙΩΝ. Es mencionada también en la lista de las ciudades cretenses que firmaron una alianza con Eumenes II de Pérgamo en el año 183 a.
