| - Η θέση επιφυλακής (αγγλικά: guard) είναι μία θέση μάχης στο έδαφος όπου ο ένας από τους δύο μαχόμενους, αυτός που είναι με την πλάτη στο έδαφος, έχει περιτυλίξει με τα πόδια του τον κορμό του άλλου. Στο μαχητικό άθλημα γκράπλινγκ (πάλη υποταγής) θεωρείται πλεονεκτική θέση διότι από αυτήν μπορεί να επιχειρηθεί κάποια λαβή πνιγμού ή εξάρθρωσης, την ίδια στιγμή που η προτεραιότητα του από πάνω μαχητή είναι να μεταβεί σε μια καλύτερη θέση, διαδικασία γνωστή ως passing the guard. Σε αγώνες ΜΜΑ ή γενικότερα σε μάχη σώμα με σώμα είναι εφικτό να γίνουν χτυπήματα από τον επάνω μαχητή ακόμη και αν ο ασκείται κάποιος έλεγχος από τον από κάτω. - Lors des phases de combat au sol, la garde est une position primordiale, permettant de se défendre contre les coups de son adversaire ou de placer des techniques de soumissions. On la retrouve dans de nombreux sports de combat spécialisés dans le combat au sol, le ne waza au judo, le sambo, le grappling, le jiu jitsu brésilien ou encore le combat libre.
