Zweck von TechEdSat 1 war, weltraumtaugliche Avionik, die von ÅAC Microtec entwickelt wurde, zu testen, und ein Experiment mit Kommunikationssatelliten durchzuführen. Dabei hätte TechEdSat 1 Frequenzen von Bodenstationen verwendet, um mit Iridium- und Orbcomm-Satelliten zu kommunizieren.
