Zelgadis Greywords (ゼルガディス・グレイワーズ, Zerugadisu Gureiwāzu) is a fictional character from the manga, light novels and anime Slayers. He is voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa in the original version. In the dub, he was originally voiced by Daniel Cronin. However, after finishing episode 10, the production came to a halt, and was resumed only a year later, while the staff has lost contact with Cronin during that time. They hired Crispin Freeman as a replacement who gave the character a darker voice and he continued to voice Zelgadis for the remainder of the series.

El nombre en japonés es ゼルガディス = グレイワーズ, que en romanji sería "Ze-ru-ga-di-su Gu-rei-wa-zu". El personaje fue creado con motivo de un concurso de narración fantástica al que el autor se presentó, y originalmente estaba pensado que fuera un demonio o personaje malvado. Finalmente, el personaje de Zelgadiss fue desarrollado de diferente forma, pero conservando la idea original, para la serie de novelas y el anime homónimo del mismo autor, "Slayers". Su nombre deriva del latinismo zelōsus del que derivan las palabras "celoso" en español, y "zealous" en inglés, cuya raíz y significado es el mismo. El nombre y apellido del personaje hacen referencia a su personalidad, que se podría traducir muy apuradamente como "El Celoso de las Palabras Grises". Físicamente, es un hombre joven de alrededor de 20 años y de 1,77 m de altura; sus ojos son grises/gris azulado y su cabello es oscuro de aspecto revuelto, con un mechón espeso de flequillo que cae sobre el ojo derecho. Sin embargo, a causa de su transformación, su piel es de color azulado y tachonada de esquirlas; sus orejas son largas y puntiagudas, colmillos afilados, ojos penetrantes y cabellos con aspecto de metal; su metabolismo también es diferente al de un humano normal, su piel es de piedra pero sus órganos internos son normales, y su envejecimiento está ralentizado de forma que su esperanza de vida es el doble a la normal.
