It is in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Zagreb stands near the international border between Croatia and Slovenia at an elevation of approximately 122 m (400 ft) above sea level. At the 2021 census, the city had a population of 767,131. The population of the Zagreb urban agglomeration is 1,071,150, approximately a quarter of the total population of Croatia.

  • Záhřeb (chorvatsky Zagreb) je hlavní a největší město Chorvatska. Leží na severozápadě země, u řeky Sávy, na jižních svazích pohoří Medvednica. Záhřeb leží v nadmořské výšce přibližně 120 m n. m. Žije zde přibližně 809 000 obyvatel, v celé záhřebské městské aglomeraci žije 1 150 000 obyvatel, což je přibližně čtvrtina celkového počtu obyvatel Chorvatska. Záhřeb je město s bohatou historií sahající až do římských dob. Nejstarší osadou v okolí města byla římská na území dnešní obce Ščitarjeva.
