- Il sistema XG è uno dei 38 sistemi di gruppi sanguigni umani noti, costituito da un antigene di superficie dei globuli rossi scoperto nel 1962 dai ricercatori dell' di Londra. Il gene PBDX, che codifica l'antigene, si trova sul braccio corto del cromosoma X. Poiché i maschi hanno normalmente un unico cromosoma X, sono considerati emizigoti, mentre le donne, che hanno due copie del gene, potrebbero essere eterozigoti per la presenza o l'assenza del gene funzionante, e potrebbero (attraverso un processo di lyonizzazione) esprimere la proteina funzionante solo su alcuni dei loro globuli rossi. - The XG antigen is a red blood cell surface antigen discovered in 1962. by researchers at the MRC Blood Group Unit. The PBDX gene that encodes the antigen is located on the short arm of the X chromosome. Since males normally have one X chromosome they are considered hemizygotes. Since women have two copies of the gene and could be heterozygotic for the presence or absence of the functioning gene they could (through the process of lyonisation) express the functioning protein on just some of their red blood cells.
