Xaraya is a Content Management System and is Free Software published under the GNU General Public License. Xaraya is written in the programming language PHP, and is based on the previously unpublished 0.8 branch of PostNuke (circa mid-2002). Xaraya shares basic ideas with PostNuke in the area of modularity and security, but it has been completely rewritten with a focus on separation between design and content in order to achieve a more modular and flexible product. This added flexibility allows Xaraya to be used in many different ways, including blog portals, online communities, e-commerce and brochure sites.

Xaraya ist in der Programmiersprache PHP geschrieben und baut auf der bisher nicht fertiggestellten Entwicklerversion 0.8 (von Mitte 2002) des PostNuke-Projekts auf. Obwohl Xaraya einige Grundideen mit PostNuke und PHP-Nuke teilt, wurde die Basistechnologie komplett neu erstellt um eine Trennung zwischen Code, Design und Inhalt zu erreichen und die Funktionalitäten zu modularisieren und zu flexibilisieren. Dadurch können mit Xaraya die verschiedensten Webangebote erstellt werden. Von einfachen Blogs über Portale, Online Communitys und Webshops bis hin zu großen Content-Management-Systemen wie www. linux. com. Herausragend ist das System der überdeckenden Schablonen. Hiermit ist es möglich, die Website lokal vollständig anzupassen und trotzdem an den laufenden Aktualisierungsprozessen des Programmcodes teilzuhaben. Die Schablonen werden automatisch beim Seitenabruf mit der integrierten Template Engine Blocklayout vorkompiliert und stehen nachfolgend zum schnellen Seitenaufbau bereit. Der Programmcode wird öffentlich mit dem Versionskontrollsystem Monotone weiterentwickelt.
