- Wolf Rock is a set of four volcanic pinnacles two kilometres north-northeast of Double Island Point in Cooloola, Gympie Region, Queensland, Australia. The location is a popular scuba diving spot. It is said the rock was named for one of Captain Cook's crew who first saw the rocks on rounding Double Island Point. There was certainly an Archibald Wolfe on Cook's voyage, but Cook doesn't record the rocks, nor anyone in particular seeing them (or the point) first. Wolf Rock is considered by the Queensland Government to be Queensland's most important habitat area for the critically endangered grey nurse shark. It is a mating area and a high number of females and pregnant females have been seen there. From 19 December 2003 the rock and three other highly significant areas were declared protected, with no fishing of any kind permitted at Wolf Rock and only very limited fishing at the others. - Wolf Rock is een groep van vier vulkanische rotsen in de zuidelijke Koraalzee, ongeveer 1,3 km ten noordnoordoosten van Double Island Point in de Australische deelstaat Queensland. De zee rond de rotsen geldt als een populair duikgebied. Wolf Rock zou genoemd zijn naar een bemanningslid van de Endeavour, het schip waarmee James Cook van 1768 tot 1771 zijn eerste reis naar de Stille Oceaan maakte. Hoewel er inderdaad ene Archibald Wolfe aan boord was, vermeldt Cook in zijn verslag van die reis de rotsen echter niet, noch dat iemand van zijn bemanning ze gezien zou hebben. Het gebied rond Wolf Rock wordt door de regering van Queensland beschouwd als de belangrijkste habitat van de ernstig bedreigde zandtijgerhaai (Carcharias taurus) in de deelstaat. Miejsce jest popularne wśród płetwonurków. Wystające z wody skały podobno zostały po raz pierwszy dostrzeżone podczas pierwszej wyprawy dookoła świata kapitana Cooka, przez członka załogi statku Endeavour i nazwane na jego cześć. Mimo iż członkiem załogi był niejaki Archibald Wolfe, kapitan Cook nie wspomina w swoich dziennikach o odkryciu i nazwaniu skał. Rząd Queensland uważa wody wokół Wolf Rock za najważniejsze stanowisko zagrożonego wyginięciem tawrosza piaskowego. Rekiny kojarzą się tam w pary i można tam spotkać dużą liczbę samic i ciężarnych samic. Od 2003 r. rejon wokół skał Wolf Rock został obszarem chronionym z całkowitym zakazem połowu ryb.
