Spécialiste éminent de la culture du Sud des États-Unis, William Ferris a publié de nombreux ouvrages sur le blues du Mississippi dont Blues From the Delta (Da Capo Press Inc, 1970) et Les Voix du Mississippi (Papa Guédé, 2013) traduction française de son ouvrage Give My Poor Heart Ease (UNC Press, 2009).
