- Vigne de Sodome est une expression biblique désignant une plante aux fruits amers issue de Sodome. Cette plante n'est mentionnée qu'une fois dans l'Ancien Testament : Deutéronome 32:32. Parmi les nombreuses conjectures faites quant à la nature de cet arbre, la plus probable est qu'il s'agisse de l'osher des Arabes, qui abonde dans la région de la mer Morte. D'autres l'identifient à la coloquinte. Ses fruits, les pommes de Sodome, sont beaux à voir, mais extrêmement amers au goût (voir aussi Ein Gedi). Le peuple d'Israël tel qu'en parle Moïse dans ce passage, serait totalement corrompu, ne produisant que des fruits amers.

The Douay-Rheims renders the phrase as, "Their vines are of the vineyard of Sodom," theJPS Tanakh: "The vine for them is from Sodom," and the Revised Standard Version, "For their vine comes from the vine of Sodom." Among the many conjectures as to this tree, the most probable is that it is the osher (Calotropis procera) of the Arabs, which grows from Jordan to southern Egypt. The fruit of Calotropis procera is therefore called "apples of Sodom", Sodom apple, and Dead Sea apple. Although beautiful to the eye, are bitter to the taste. Another conjecture equates it with the colocynth (Citrullus colocynthis). Its fruit are called Vine of Sodom, which, although beautiful to the eye, are bitter to the taste. (en)
