- The 2008 United Nations Security Council election was held on 17 October 2008 during the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The elections were held for five non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council for two-year mandates commencing on 1 January 2009. In accordance with the Security Council's rotation rules, the ten non-permanent Security Council seats rotate among the regional blocs into which UN member states traditionally divide themselves for voting and representation purposes. All five contests were won on the first ballot. The five available seats were allocated as follows:
* One for Africa, held by South Africa
* One for Asia, held by Indonesia.
* One for Latin America and the Caribbean, held by Panama.
* Two for the Western European and Others Group, held by Belgium and Italy. The newly elected five member states served on the Security Council for the 2009–10 period. (en)
- L'élection du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies de 2008 s'est tenue le 17 octobre 2008 durant la 63e session de l'assemblée générale des Nations unies. L'assemblée générale avait lieu au Siège des Nations unies à New York. Le vote désigne cinq pays qui vont siéger au Conseil de sécurité en tant que membre non permanent pour un mandat de deux ans débutant le 1er janvier 2009. Selon le règlement du conseil de sécurité, les cinq sièges à pourvoir sont répartis entre les continents de cette manière :
* un siège pour l'Afrique (attribué à l'Ouganda) ;
* un siège pour l'Asie (attribué au Japon) ;
* deux sièges pour le Groupe des États d’Europe occidentale et autres États (attribués à la Turquie et à l'Autriche) ;
* un siège pour l'Amérique latine et les Caraïbes (attribué au Mexique).

- Выборы в СБ ООН прошли 17 октября 2008 года на 63 ГА ООН в Штаб-квартире ООН. Новыми непостоянными членами Совета безопасности ООН на 2 года избраны Япония, Австрия, Мексика, Турция и Уганда. Свою работу в Совбезе они начали с 1 января 2009 года. Иран и Исландия также претендовавшие на место в Совете безопасности, не получили нужного количества голосов. (ru)
