- La Resolució 1987 del Consell de Seguretat de les Nacions Unides, adoptada per aclamació en reunió privada el 17 de juny de 2011 va recomanar a l'Assemblea General el nomenament de Ban Ki-moon per a un segon mandat com a Secretari General de les Nacions Unides. Aquesta recomanació va ser posteriorment ratificada per aclamació per l'Assemblea General, donant a Ban Ki-moon el càrrec de Secretari General de les Nacions Unides per al període 1 de gener de 2012 - 31 de desembre de 2016. L'elecció de Ban no va ser disputada i les nacions havien aprovat la seva decisió immediatament. La votació es va retardar a causa dels desacords en l'agrupació regional d'Amèrica Llatina i Carib sobre si s'ha d'aprovar Ban com a únic candidat. Corea del Nord va donar el suport a la reelecció de manera no oficial. - Resolution 1987 des UN-Sicherheitsrats wurde am 17. Juni 2011 durch Akklamation angenommen. In der Resolution empfiehlt der Sicherheitsrat der Generalversammlung der Vereinten Nationen, den Generalsekretär der Vereinten Nationen, Ban Ki-moon für eine zweite Amtszeit zu wählen. Ursprünglich sollte die Entscheidung schon einen Tag zuvor fallen. Sie wurde verschoben, weil die Gruppe der lateinamerikanischen und karibischen Staaten sich nicht für Ban aussprechen wollte. Auf die Entscheidung hat dies allerdings keinen Einfluss, da die Generalversammlung den Generalsekretär auf Empfehlung des Sicherheitsrats wählt. Am 21. Juni 2011 wurde Ban Ki-moon von der Generalversammlung für eine zweite Amtszeit vom 1. Januar 2012 bis 31. Dezember 2016 gewählt. (de)

Dicha recomendación fue posteriormente ratificada por aclamación por la Asamblea General, dando a Ban Ki-moon el cargo de Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas para el periodo 1 de enero de 2012 - 31 de diciembre de 2016. En el proceso de nominación del Secretario General, el reglamento provisional del Consejo de Seguridad determina que el Consejo debe elegir un candidato y recomendarlo a la Asamblea General para su votación. - United Nations Security Council Resolution 1987, adopted by acclamation at a closed meeting on June 17, 2011, having considered the question of the recommendation for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Council recommended to the General Assembly that Mr. Ban Ki-moon be appointed for a second term of office from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2016. Ban's election was uncontested and nations had approved of his decision immediately. The vote was delayed due to disagreements in the Latin American and Caribbean regional grouping over whether to endorse Ban as he was the sole candidate. Support for his re-election was also given unofficially by North Korea. His appointment was subsequently endorsed by the General Assembly. (en)
