Trinity College, Dublin (TCD; Irish: Coláiste na Tríonóide, Baile Átha Cliath), corporately designated as the Provost, Fellows and Scholars of the College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth near Dublin, was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I as the "mother of a university", and is the only constituent college of the University of Dublin. Conçue sur le modèle des universités d'Oxford et Cambridge, l'université n'accepta pendant longtemps que des étudiants mâles et protestants. Ce n'est qu'en 1793 que les catholiques furent admis (en pratique la hiérarchie catholique n'autorisa ses fidèles a fréquenter Trinity qu'en 1970), qu'en 1873 que toutes les religions furent admises et qu'en 1904 que les femmes furent admises. « Trinity » se trouve à côté de College Green, au centre ville de Dublin, en face de l'ancien parlement irlandais, qui appartient maintenant à la Banque d'Irlande. Le campus occupe 19 ha, et est autant constitué d'anciens bâtiment historiques que de constructions plus récentes. Avec le développement de l'université et l'évolution des matières, d'autres bâtiments ont été acquis par l'Université en centre ville (autour du Campus) et dans le sud de la ville (le Trinity Hall et les Jardins botaniques universitaires). Des formations originales sont proposées parmi lesquelles le Broad Curriculum (un cursus large de 4 ans au cours duquel les étudiants suivent des cours dans plusieurs disciplines : droit, géographie, histoire, botanique, théâtre, littérature) ou les filières bilingues (un cursus de 4 ans où les étudiants étudient le droit en anglais et en français ou bien en anglais et en allemand). La vie associative est très développée à Trinity. Les deux associations phares se vantent d'ailleurs d'être les plus anciennes associations étudiantes au monde. The Phil (ou Philosophical Society) et The Hist (ou Historical Society) occupent à elles seules un grand bâtiment (Graduates Memorial Building) dans lequel sont organisés des débats chaque semaine. La Phil a compté Oscar Wilde et Bram Stoker parmi ses membres. La Hist a été elle fondée par Edmund Burke. Trinity College est l'université la plus sélective d'Irlande. Elle est classée parmi les meilleures universités d'Europe et du monde et attire chaque année non seulement les meilleurs étudiants irlandais mais aussi des jeunes du monde entier.
