- Das Corpus trapezoideum, auch Trapezkörper genannt, liegt im unteren Hirnstamm an der Grenze von Hinterhirn zu Markhirn, im kaudalen Pons (Brücke) zählt es zur weißen Substanz der ventralen Brückenhaube (Tegmentum pontis). Bei einigen Tieren, beispielsweise Katzen, bildet es unterhalb der Brücke einen zarten Querwulst auf dem ventralen Hirnstamm. Die so bereits mit bloßem Auge erkennbare Struktur wird durch zahlreiche quer verlaufende Faserzüge hervorgerufen, hier kreuzen die meisten der Axone von 2. Neuronen der Hörbahn. Diese Fasern ziehen, vom Nucleus cochlearis anterior (vorderer Schneckenkern) ausgehend, jeweils auf die Gegenseite und steigen auf zum Nucleus olivaris superior (oberer Olivenkern), zu den Nuclei lemnisci lateralis (Schleifenkerne) und vor allem zum Colliculus inferior (unterer Hügel), der im Dach des Mittelhirns (Tectum mesencephali) liegt. Diese Verbindungen sind Teil des Lemniscus lateralis, der daneben auch ungekreuzte Fasern und solche vom hinteren Schneckenkern (Nucleus cochlearis posterior) führt. Im Bereich des Corpus trapezoideum sind einige Kerngebiete gruppiert, in denen Fasern schon hier auf 3. Neuronen der Hörbahn umgeschaltet werden, die

- The trapezoid body (the ventral acoustic stria) is part of the auditory pathway where some of the axons coming from the cochlear nucleus (specifically, the anterior cochlear nucleus) decussate (cross over) to the other side before traveling on to the superior olivary nucleus. This is believed to help with localization of sound. The trapezoid body is located in the caudal pons, or more specifically the pontine tegmentum. It is situated between the pontine nuclei and the medial lemniscus. After nerves from the cochlear nucleus cross over in the trapezoid body and go on to the superior olivary nucleus, they continue to the lateral lemniscus, then the inferior colliculus, then the medial geniculate body, before finally arriving at the primary auditory cortex. Acredita-se que essa etapa auxilie a localização espacial dos estímulos sonoros O corpo trapezoide localiza-se na parte caudal da ponte, mais especificamente na região do tegmento pontino. On the other hand, in order not to obscure the trapezoid body, the efferent fibers of the terminal nuclei on the right side have been resected in a considerable portion of their extent.
