- Transnationale Geschichte ist eine Art der Geschichtsschreibung bzw. der Geschichtsbetrachtung in der Geschichtswissenschaft, bei der die geschichtliche Perspektive über die nationalstaatlich fixierte und begrenzte Geschichtsdeutung einer Nationalgeschichte hinausgeht und die Ausrichtung der Disziplin somit global und weltgeschichtlich wird. Die Vielzahl der Themen- und Forschungsfelder, die unter transnationalen Aspekten untersucht werden können und somit zur transnationalen Geschichte gehören, ist groß und deutet auf ein beträchtliches Potenzial des Ansatzes hin. Insbesondere die moderne Globalisierung hat zum Aufschwung dieser Perspektive beigetragen, sie verharrt jedoch nicht in zeitgeschichtlichen Betrachtungen, sondern analysiert auch vorangegangene transnationale Phänomene. Ihr organisatorisches Hauptorgan ist das Projekt geschichte.transnational, in dem sich verschiedene Fachforen und internationale Forschergruppen verschiedener Disziplinen organisieren. Wesentliche Ziele sind die Erforschung von transnationalen sozialen, politischen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Vernetzungen und ihren Auswirkungen auf lokale oder nationale Verhältnisse. Die transnationale Geschichte versteht sich nicht als „Schule“ oder Paradigma, sondern als ein Zugang zur Geschichte neben anderen. (de)
- L’histoire transnationale est un courant et une discipline historique s’intéressant aux interactions et interdépendances des sociétés contemporaines. L’étude de cette discipline porte en particulier sur l’histoire des mouvements et réseaux transnationaux ainsi que sur la circulation des acteurs, des idées, des biens et des capitaux. Ont aussi une place de choix dans l’étude de l’histoire transnationale les organisations internationales, les fondations philanthropiques et les ONG, car ce sont des espaces d’échanges, de transferts et d’élaboration de nouvelles idées. - Transnational history is an approach in historiography that places emphasis on historical phenomena that are not shaped by nation states such as the movement of people or ideas. According to the historian Akira Iriye, "transnational history may be defined as the study of movements and forces that have cut across national boundaries" in a variety of contexts. Originating in American studies, the term has been applied by historians who seek to avoid taking national history as the "natural" frame for historical analysis but instead look at the past without the framing of the nation state. The redirection of historical studies can be seen as a reaction to the fact that the field of history was founded in the 19th century, when nationalist movements were rising in Europe. The concept has some similarities to global or world history. (en)
- Transnationale geschiedenis is een tak van de geschiedwetenschap die zich bezighoudt met hoe ontwikkelingen binnen de geschiedenis van één land zijn gevormd door de ontwikkelingen buiten dit land. In meer enge zin houdt transnationale geschiedenis zich bezig met grensoverschrijdende historische fenomenen; dit wijkt af van de internationale geschiedenis die zich bezighoudt met de relaties tussen nationale staten. Voorbeelden van transnationale gebeurtenissen zijn de Spaanse Burgeroorlog en de Holocaust. Oorspronkelijk komt de benaming 'transnationaal' uit de rechtswetenschappen. In de jaren vijftig van de twintigste eeuw begonnen juristen deze term te gebruiken voor grensoverschrijdende juridische fenomenen als wetgeving en instituties. Via de sociale wetenschappen migreerde het concept in de jaren negentig naar de geschiedwetenschap. Daar werd met name omarmd door de beoefenaars van de vergelijkende geschiedenis. Het idee van transnationalisme komt uit 1991, met Australisch historicus als pionier, maar het was in het onderzoeksveld van amerikanistiek, in de late jaren 1990, dat het concept daadwerkelijk werd ontwikkeld. Sindsdien is de term algemeen overgenomen door de geschiedwetenschap. Aangezien het concept nog los van de geschiedwetenschap bestaat (en vaak multidisciplinair wordt uitgeoefend) is er geen consensus over hoe de term precies omschreven dient te worden. 'Transnationale geschiedenis' wordt dan ook gebruikt als overkoepelende term voor allerlei benaderingen die zich afzetten tegen de nationale geschiedenis. (nl)
- História transnacional é um campo de história que analisa a forma como a evolução na história de um país foi moldada por acontecimentos em outros países, por exemplo, como a história da Inglaterra foi moldada pela evolução vinda de França, a Alemanha ou os EUA. A ideia de pode ser rastreada até 1991, quando foi pioneira nesta abordagem, mas ele estava no campo de Estudos da América, no final da década de 1990, quando o conceito foi realmente desenvolvido. Desde então, o termo tem sido adotado pelo campo da História. Como o conceito ainda é relativamente novo no campo da História, um consenso não surgiu sobre como definir o termo com precisão.
