Tolkien curati dal figlio Christopher e per la prima volta editi in Italia nel 2000 per la Luni Editrice. La raccolta è composta da sette saggi sul medioevo e sul fantastico, in particolare sulla letteratura che ha posto le basi al fantasy propriamente detto.
