- The Marble Index je druhé sólové studiové album německé zpěvačky Nico, vydané v květnu 1969 u vydavatelství Elektra Records. Album produkoval Frazier Mohawk a o aranžmá a hudební doprovod se zde postaral John Cale (šlo o jeho vůbec první práci po odchodu ze skupiny The Velvet Underground). Své předchozí album Chelsea Girl Nico vydala v roce 1967 a následně jí byla zrušena smlouva s vydavatelstvím Verve Records. Deska v celém rozsahu vyšla znovu v roce 2007 jako součást kompilace The Frozen Borderline: 1968–1970; toto album pak ještě obsahovalo různé alternativní verze a dříve nevydané písně. (cs)

El sonido de vanguardia introducido en el álbum, un marcado contraste con su debut en el pop folk, Chelsea Girl, fue el resultado de la combinación del armonio y la voz sombría de Nico y los arreglos musicales del productor John Cale, que se inspiraron en la música clásica del siglo XX. The avant-garde sound introduced in the album—a stark contrast with her folk pop debut, Chelsea Girl (1967)—was the result of the combination of Nico's droning harmonium and somber vocals, and the producer John Cale's musical arrangements, which were inspired by modern European classical music. Nico envisioned the release as an attempt to get artistic legitimacy and changing the looks that had made her famous as a fashion model. Although The Marble Index was largely unnoticed when it was released, it has achieved acclaim over time. Nico's unprecedented sound and personal style—both recognised for their tenebrous quality—are considered an influence on several artists.
