La cançó temàtica de l'espectacle és l'instrumental "Having an Average Weekend" de la banda canadenca . The Kids va fer una pel·lícula, , que es va estrenar el 1996. Es van reformar per a diverses gires i festivals de comèdia el 2000. Després es van reunir per a una minisèrie de vuit parts, , el gener del 2010. El seu nom prové de Sid Caesar qui, si un acudit no feia gràcia o li sortia pitjor del que s'esperava, ho atribuïa a “els nens de la sala”, fent referència a un grup d'escriptors joves penjats al voltant de l'estudi. - The Kids in the Hall is a Canadian sketch comedy TV series that aired for five seasons from 1988 to 1995, and a sixth revival season in 2022, starring the comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. The troupe, consisting of comedians Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson, appeared as almost all the characters throughout the series, both male and female, and also wrote most of the sketches. The series debuted as a one-hour pilot special which aired on HBO and CBC Television in 1988, and began airing as a regular weekly series on both services in 1989. The regular series premiered July 21, 1989, on HBO, and September 14 on CBC. In the United States, the first three seasons were on HBO before it moved to CBS in 1993, where it stayed for two more seasons airing late Friday nights. CBC aired the show for the whole duration of its run. A sixth, revival season of the show, which includes eight episodes, was released on Amazon Prime Video on May 13, 2022. It features the entire troupe as well as numerous guest stars, and was Amazon's first Canadian original series. The theme song for the show is the instrumental "Having an Average Weekend" by the Canadian band Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet. (en)

Serien producerades av Lorne Michaels, som även producerar Saturday Night Live. Sketcherna i tv-serien är ofta surrealistiska och har mer gemensamt med Monty Pythons flygande cirkus än med Saturday Night Live. Medlemmarna spelade merparten av rollerna, både manliga och kvinnliga, och spelade dessutom sig själva i metasketcher. Efter tv-serien gjorde gruppen en film, (1996), där några av figurerna från serien medverkade. Filmen fick blandad kritik men lockade ingen större publik. I början av 2000-talet lade gruppen ner, men återförenades 2007 för att turnera med sketchshower. År 2010 kom miniserien . (sv)
