Многие заклинания и книги утеряны, а оставшиеся маги вынуждены по крупицам собирать утраченные знания, нередко вступая в открытое противоборство. В дальнейшем серия была продолжена выпуском ещё одного сборника рассказов под названием Глаза чужого мира, которые были объединены единой сюжетной линией, повествующей о приключениях мошенника и авантюриста по имени Кугель.
