- Les Beatles se sont régulièrement produits dans différents clubs de Hambourg dans le Nord de l'Allemagne lors de cinq voyages durant la période allant du mois d'août 1960 au mois de décembre 1962. C'est un chapitre dans l'histoire du groupe qui a été l'occasion d'améliorer leurs compétences musicales sur scène, élargi leur réputation et conduit à leur premier enregistrement qui les a fait découvrir par Brian Epstein. Lors des deux premiers séjours, le groupe était constitué de John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe et Pete Best. Sutcliffe décida de reprendre sa carrière de peintre et quitte le groupe pour demeurer à Hambourg avec sa fiancée Astrid Kirchherr. Le quatuor revient à Hambourg où ils apprennent la mort de leur ancien bassiste quelques jours plus tôt. Lors des deux derniers séjours, Ringo Starr est le nouveau batteur du groupe. Ce dernier s'y était aussi produit avec son groupe Rory Storm and the Hurricanes ou accompagnant Tony Sheridan. (fr)
- La estancia de The Beatles en Hamburgo, la ciudad alemana donde John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe y Pete Best actuaron regularmente en cuatro clubes distintos durante el periodo de agosto de 1960 a diciembre de 1962, fue una etapa en la historia del grupo en que perfeccionaron sus habilidades musicales, ampliaron su reputación y realizaron su primera grabación, que atrajo la atención de Brian Epstein. El agente de reservas de The Beatles, Allan Williams, decidió enviar al grupo a Hamburgo cuando otro grupo que también gestionaba, Derry and the Seniors, tuvo éxito allí. Al no tener un batería de tiempo completo, Best fue contratado unos días antes de su partida. En un principio vivían en condiciones miserables, durmiendo en un almacén sin calefacción detrás de la pantalla de un cine, en una zona famosa por mafiosos y prostitutas. The Beatles' booking agent, Allan Williams, decided to send the group to Hamburg when another group he managed, Derry and the Seniors, proved successful there. Having no permanent drummer at the time, they recruited Best a few days before their departure. After breaking their contract by playing at another club, Harrison was deported for being underaged, and McCartney and Best were arrested and deported for attempted arson. The Beatles first met Astrid Kirchherr in Hamburg, who was instrumental in their adoption of the mop topped Beatle haircut. During their period in Hamburg, Sutcliffe decided to leave the group to continue his studies. In April 1962, less than a year after leaving the group, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and died as a result. (en)
