After the 1925 season, he was selected to play in the inaugural East–West Shrine Game. Sloane next attended the United States Naval Academy, where he played for the Navy Midshipmen football team. Sloane then returned to Drake University where he studied law and served as the line coach for the football team. He was offered an opportunity to play professional football for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL), but he reportedly declined as the salary of $500 to $1,000 per year was less than he was able to make as a lawyer. Sloane also served five terms in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1943 to 1953. Sloane was born on March 22, 1903 to L. T. and Rebecca (Shea) Sloane. He married Eleanor Louis Davis on March 21, 1937. The couple had a son, Ted, and a daughter, Mary. He died on December 21, 1984. (en)
