- Take It from the Man! je třetí studiové album americké psychedelicko-rockové kapely The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Po nahrávání jejich prvního alba Methodrone, ovlivněného žánrem shoegaze, které vyšlo v roce 1995 a vydáním alba Spacegirl & Other Favorites složeného z raných nahrávek, se kapela vrátila do stuida, aby nahrála album Take it from the Man!, které bylo silně ovlivněno zvukem britských garážových kapel šedesátých let. Nahrávání alba probíhalo v období listopadu 1995–února 1996. Po natočení celého alba nejmenovaným producentem, který nahrávku vyhodil, kapela znovu nahrála album s minimálním rozpočtem. Nahrávání probíhalo hlavně ve studiu Lifesouce v Emeryvillu v Kalifornii. Nové produkce se ujal Larry Thrasher, jehož tradiční "studiový" přístup k nahrávání byl BJM odmítnut, jelikož se kapela rozhodla pro osobitý zvuk, typický pro garážové kapely šedesátch let. Psychedelicko - garážový rock na albu je často srovnáván s hudbou raných The Rolling Stones. Deska vyšla u Bomp! Records v květnu 1996 a je první ze tří dlouho hrajících desek vydaných v roce 1996, následováno albem Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request a trojici uzavírá Thank God for Mental Illness. Album bylo velice dobře přijato. Anton Newcombe album řadí mezi jeho nejoblíbenější, které kapela vydala během své existence. (cs)
- Take It from the Man! est le troisième album de The Brian Jonestown Massacre sorti le 28 mai 1996. C'est le premier des trois albums réalisés par le groupe en 1996 précédant Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request. Il y a un changement de style musical, il comporte des influences des années 60 notamment des débuts des Rolling Stones. Toutes les chansons ont été écrites par Anton Newcombe, sauf Oh Lord, B.S.A., Cabin Fever et In My Life qui ont été écrites par Matt Hollywood. L'album a été produit par Larry Thrasher de Psychic TV. Straight Up and Down a été utilisée comme thème musical pour la série télévisée dramatique Boardwalk Empire sur le réseau câblé américain HBO. La chanson apparaît deux fois sur l'album (piste 6 et 18), une deuxième fois en version longue. À noter sur cette dernière version, l'apport des cœurs de "Sympathy for the Devil" des Rolling Stones et de "Hey Jude" des Beatles à la fin du morceau. (fr)

After recording their shoegaze-influenced debut album Methodrone (1995) and releasing a collection of early recordings, Spacegirl & Other Favorites, the band took influence from 1960s British psychedelic garage rock and recorded Take it from the Man! from November 1995–February 1996. After recording the entire album with an unnamed producer who scrapped the recordings, the band re-recorded the album on a minimal budget, mostly at Lifesource Studios in Emeryville, California with production from Psychic TV's Larry Thrasher, whose usual "studio" approach was vetoed out by the band's back-to-basics approach. The album's psychedelic garage rock has often been compared to the Rolling Stones. Released by Bomp! Records on May 28, 1996, it is the first of three full-length albums released by the band in 1996, preceding Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request and Thank God for Mental Illness. The album was released to critical acclaim, with journalists praising the exuding of its influences and spirit. Frontman Anton Newcombe has since named the album as one of his favorites by the band. The album has featured in several "best of" lists and has been cited by several musicians as an influence. "Straight Up and Down", which is featured in two alternate versions on the album, later became the theme music for Boardwalk Empire. (en)
