- Jaring lingkar (surrounding net) adalah alat penangkapan ikan berupa jaring berbentuk empat persegi panjang yang terdiri dari sayap, badan, dilengkapi pelampung, pemberat, tali ris atas, tali ris bawah dengan atau tanpa tali kerut/pengerut dan salah satu bagiannya berfungsi sebagai kantong yang pengoperasiannya melingkari gerombolan ikan pelagis. Jaring lingkar memiliki efektivitas yang cukup tinggi dalam menghasilkan tangkapan ikan karena ikan yang ditangkap dalam jumlah banyak dan bergerombol. Prinsip dasar alat tangkap jaring lingkar adalah menutup jalan renang ikan baik horizontal maupun vertikal (pada jenis jaring lingkar dengan kolor) sehingga ikan terperangkap dalam alat tangkap. Jenis-jenis ikan yang menjadi tujuan penangkapan dengan jaring lingkar adalah ikan tongkol, kembung, tembang, selar, cakalang, tuna sirip kuning dan ikan pelagis lainnya. Dibeberapa daerah, pengoperasian alat tangkap jaring lingkar dibantu dengan pemasangan rumpon yang terbuat dari rangkaian daun kelapa. Rumpon berfungsi sebagai tempat berkumpulnya ikan-ikan kecil yang merupakan mangsa ikan-ikan yang lebih besar yang menjadi tujuan penangkapan jaring lingkar. Sekarang ini jaring lingkar telah mengalami perkembangan yangcukup pesat yang pengoperasiannya membutuhkan berbagai alat dan mesin bantu penangkapan. (in)
