Luego se unieron las marcas como Alfa Romeo, Ford, Honda, Nissan, Opel y Peugeot, algunas de ellas de manera oficial. The championship was established when BMW and Audi both left the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) in 1992, after the series had adopted the more expensive Class 1 Touring Cars rules. STW would run to Super Touring regulations for the full six years of its existence. The demise of the championship turned out to be the revival of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (also abbreviated to DTM) in 2000, as the factory teams pulled out of the STW for the new series. The STW was succeeded by its second level series, the Deutsche Tourenwagen Challenge, and later the ADAC Procar Series. (en)

- Super Tourenwagen Cup (STW) – mistrzostwa samochodów turystycznych organizowane w Niemczech w latach 1994-1999. Seria powstała gdy BMW oraz Audi opuściły serię Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) po wprowadzeniu w niej nowych przepisów zwiększających koszty uczestnictwa. STW natomiast korzystała ze standardowych regulacji kategorii superturystycznej stosowanych również w seriach rozgrywanych w innych krajach. Pozwalało to na wykorzystanie jednej konstrukcji dla rywalizacji w kilku narodowych seriach tego typu. Koniec istnienia STW splótł się z odrodzeniem serii DTM (tym razem skrót rozwijany jest jako Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) w 2000 roku. Natomiast następcą STW, w nieco bardziej amatorskiej formie (brak zespołów fabrycznych) została seria Deutsche Tourenwagen Challenge (DTC) oraz później ADAC Procar Series. (pl)

Esse campeonato foi criado quando a BMW e a Audi abandonaram a Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) em 1992, depois que aquela competição adotou as regras da categoria de maior custo. O STW utilizou as regras da categoria Super Turismo durante os seis anos de sua existência. Nos últimos anos de sua existência, 1998 e 1999, ele assumiu a denominação de "Super TourenWagen Meisterschaft" (STM). O término dessa competição acabou sendo a ressurreição do Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft agora com novas regras e sob a denominação de Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (mantendo a sigla "DTM") no ano 2000, quando as equipes abandonaram o STW pela nova competição.
