- Estratònic d'Atenes (en llatí Stratonicus en grec antic Στρατόνικος) fou un músic atenenc que va viure al temps d'Alexandre el Gran. No es coneix gran cosa de la seva vida i poc de la seva música, i va ser famós principalment pel rebombori que es va suscitar quan va renyar de manera aguda i enginyosa a Filotes que presumia excessivament d'una victòria que havia obtingut sobre Timoteu, segons Estrabó i sobretot Claudi Elià. - Ο Στρατόνικος ο Αθηναίος (έζησε τον 4ο αιώνα π.Χ.) ήταν διακεκριμένος μουσικός της εποχής του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου (336–323 π.Χ.), από τον οποίο σχεδόν τίποτα δεν έχει καταγραφεί, εκτός από την απότομη και πνευματώδη επίπληξη που είχε δώσει στον Φιλώτα, όταν ο τελευταίος καυχιόταν για μία νίκη που είχε κερδίσει επί του Τιμόθεου του Μιλήσιου. Ο χαρακτήρας του αποκαλύπτεται επίσης από ένα άλλο ανέκδοτο: Και όταν ρωτήθηκε κάποτε από κάποιον για το ποιός είναι ο πιο αδύναμος λαός, είπε: «Στην Παμφυλία, οι άνρθωποι της Φασηλίδας ήταν οι χειρότεροι, αλλά οι άνθρωποι της Σίδης ήταν οι χειρότεροι σε όλο τον κόσμο». Και όταν ξαναρωτήθηκε, σύμφωνα με την περιγραφή του Ηγησάνδρου, ποιοι ήταν οι σπουδαιότεροι Βάρβαροι, οι Βοιωτοί ή οι Θεσσαλοί, αυτός είπε: «Οι Ηλείοι». Λέγεται ότι ο Νικοκλής, βασιλιάς της Κύπρου, τον σκότωσε για μερικά σατιρικά κομμάτια που είχε συνθέσει για τους γιους του. (el)

C.), del que apenas hay noticias, a excepción de las respuestas agudas e ingeniosas que propinaba en momentos de enfado, como tuvo ocasión de comprobar su amigo Filotas, cuando éste se jactaba de la victoria que había obtenido sobre Timoteo de Mileto. En otro momento, habiendo prometido dar lecciones públicas de su arte, no pudo conseguir más que dos discípulos dispuestos y cuando se le preguntó cuántos alumnos tenía, respondió que doce, pues en la isla donde impartía su enseñanza, había nueve estatuas de las Musas y otra del dios Apolo. Se dice que , rey de Chipre, lo mandó matar, por algunas piezas satíricas que había compuesto sobre sus hijos. (es)

His character is also revealed by another anecdote: And when he was once asked by some one who were the wickedest people, he said, "That in Pamphylia, the people of Phaselis were the worst; but that the Sidetae were the worst in the whole world." And when he was asked again, according to the account given by Hegesander, which were the greatest barbarians, the Boeotians or the Thessalians he said, "The Eleans." It is told that Nicocles, king of Cyprus, killed him for some satyric pieces he had composed on Nicocles' sons. (en)
