Emergency crews responding to the scene of a three alarm fire spent most of the night and part of the next day extinguishing the flames. The building, though owned by the University of Akron, had sat vacant and unused since 1976. The cause of the fire was determined to be unknown and the historic structure a loss. On July 21, 2021 The University of Akron (Ohio) announced it had accepted a bid to purchase the property from local a local developer who intends to preserve the buildings. (en)
