- Les Southern Uplands sont un massif montagneux d'environ 220 km de long situé dans le Sud de l'Écosse et pour une petite partie dans le Nord de l'Angleterre. C'est la plus méridionale des trois principales zones géographiques de l'Écosse continentale (les deux autres étant les Basses-Terres centrales et les Highlands). Le terme est utilisé à la fois pour décrire la région géographique et en désigner collectivement les différentes chaînes de collines et de montagnes. La région est essentiellement rurale et agricole. Ces hautes terres sont en partie boisées et contiennent de nombreuses zones de landes ouvertes. Elles abritent une faune et une flore très variées. (fr)

The term is used both to describe the geographical region and to collectively denote the various ranges of hills and mountains within this region. An overwhelmingly rural and agricultural region, the Southern Uplands are partly forested and contain many areas of open moorland - the hill names in the area are congruent with these characteristics. - Het Zuid-Schots Bergland (Engels: Southern Uplands) is een gebied en gebergte in Schotland. De bergen van het Zuid-Schots Bergland zijn ronder en niet zo hoog als de bergen in het noorden van Schotland. Eindeloze groene heuvels, bosrijke dalen en visrijke rivieren zijn kenmerkend voor het landschap. De hogere delen bestaan uit afgevlakt hoogveen. De heuvels in het grensgebied tussen Engeland en Schotland, de Scottish Borders en de heuvels in zijn voor het merendeel niet hoger dan 800 meter. De met bossen of heide bedekte of kale heuvels in de Borders worden doorsneden door dalen van rivieren, zoals de visrijke rivier de Tweed. - Wyżyna Południowoszkocka (ang. Southern Uplands) – rozległa, długa prawie na 200 km, rozczłonkowana licznymi dolinami rzek wyżyna w południowej Szkocji. Bardzo stara geologicznie, silnie zwietrzała. Zbudowana z granitów i łupków krystalicznych. W zachodniej części ślady zlodowacenia plejstoceńskiego. Średnia wysokość wyżyny to około 600 m n.p.m., natomiast najwyższym wzniesieniem jest góra Merrick, mająca 842 m n.p.m. wysokości. Wyżyna Południowoszkocka jest obszarem źródłowym dla rzek: Clyde, Tweed oraz Nith. Region wyżyny jest miejscem intensywnej hodowli owiec. W krajobrazie dominują liczne torfowiska, wrzosowiska, a także trawiaste łąki. Lasy nieliczne, głównie sosnowe. (pl)
