Sion (French: [sjɔ̃]; German: Sitten [ˈzɪtn̩]; Italian: Seduno; Latin: Sedunum) is a Swiss town, a municipality, and the capital of the canton of Valais and of the district of Sion. As of December 2020 it had a population of 34,978 (known as Sédunois(es)). On 17 January 1968, the former municipality of Bramois merged into the municipality of Sion. On 1 January 2013, the former municipality of Salins merged into the municipality of Sion, and on 1 January 2017, Les Agettes did the same.

  • ( 다른 뜻에 대해서는 시온 (동음이의) 문서를 참고하십시오.) 시옹(프랑스어: Sion, 독일어: Sitten 지텐[*])은 스위스 남부 발레주에 있는 도시로, 발레주의 주도이다. 인구 28,871(2007). 스위스 남부와 론강 상류에 위치한다. 알프스 산맥에 둘러싸여 있으나 론강 상류 분지에 위치하였고 사방으로 통하는 교통로의 요지로 오래전부터 발달한 곳이다. 선사 시대의 유적도 발견되었다. 고대 로마 시절 세두눔이라는 이름으로 건설되었다. 그 후 주교좌 소재지가 되었고 주교가 론강 상류 지역을 통치하여 시옹은 그 중심지가 되었다. 주교의 통치권은 18세기 후반 헬베티아 공화국 성립 전까지 계속되었고 발레 주가 스위스 연방의 주가 된 후 주도가 되었다. 중세 시대의 대성당 등 오래 된 건물이 많으며 성벽도 남아 있다. 작은 도시지만 지금도 로마 가톨릭의 스위스 6개 주교좌 소재지의 하나이다. 주민은 주로 프랑스어를 사용한다. 알프스를 넘어 이탈리아로 가는 교통의 요지이며 겨울 스포츠의 중심지이다. 1976년과 2002년, 2006년 동계 올림픽 유치를 신청했으나 세 차례 모두 개최지 선정 투표에서 2위로 유치에 실패했다.
