The Scottish Episcopal Church is a Christian denomination in Scotland and a member of the Anglican Communion, although it itself has pre-Anglican origins. It consists of seven dioceses in Scotland. Like all Anglican churches, it recognizes the primacy of the Archbishop of Canterbury, who does not however have any formal authority in Scotland. It has enjoyed a distinct identity since the 17th century.

Die Scottish Episcopal Church ist Mitglied der Porvoo-Gemeinschaft und hat mit diesen Kirchen volle Kirchengemeinschaft vereinbart. (de)

  • Skotska Episkopalkyrkan (Eaglais Easbaigeach na h-Alba) är namnet på den anglikanska kyrkan i Skottland. Skotska Episkopalkyrkan kom till i protest mot Skotska kyrkans beslut 1582 att avvisa ett episkopalt styrelsesätt och istället anamma reformert teologi och ett uttalat presbyterianskt styrelseskick. 1584 fick kung Jakob VI av Skottland det skotska parlamentet att anta the Black Acts, som ställde kyrkan under kunglig kontroll med två biskopar. Detta mötte starkt motstånd och kungen tvingades gå med på att generalförsamlingen skulle fortsätta styra kyrkan. Efter att Jakob 1603 blivit engelsk kung så hindrade han generalförsamlingen från att samlas och utökade antalet biskopar. 1618 samlade han kyrkans generalförsamling och drev igenom fem artiklar om episkopala bruk, som bojkottades i vida kretsar. Jakobs son Charles I kröntes 1633 i St Giles Cathedral i Edinburgh, enligt anglikansk ritual. När denne 1637, i en gudstjänst i samma katedral som han själv övervarade, lät använda en version av the Book of Common Prayer, skriven av ärkebiskop Laud så ledde det till ett uppror som resulterade i Trekungakrigen.
