- San Sebastián de Urabá fue el primer asentamiento establecido por españoles en la actual zona de Urabá-Darién, en lo que hoy es parte del territorio de los departamentos de Antioquia y Chocó en Colombia. Dicho asentamiento fue fundado el 20 de enero de 1510 por Alonso de Ojeda. La precaria instalación fue en realidad un efímero fuerte que resultó ser una verdadera tragedia. A causa de la violenta defensa por parte de los indígenas de la zona -que utilizaban flechas envenenadas-, rápidamente el fuerte sería abandonado y sus pobladores se trasladarían a otro lugar más pacífico y seguro, donde se tenía la intención de fundar como base de operaciones un verdadero poblado estable que los españoles requerían para emprender la exploración del sur del continente. Cette colonie est fondée en 1510 par Alonso de Ojeda. L'installation précaire consistait en un éphémère fort et s'est avérée être une véritable tragédie. En raison de l'extrême violence des autochtones (qui utilisaient des flèches empoisonnées) le fort est vite abandonné et ses habitants se déplacent dans un lieu plus sûr avec l'intention de s'en servir de base arrière pour l'exploration de l'Amérique du Sud. - San Sebastián de Urabá was the first settlement established by Spaniards in the area of the Darién Gap in Colombia. This fortified settlement was founded on 20 January 1510 by Alonso de Ojeda on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Urabá, in what is today Necoclí in the territory of the department of Antioquia, Colombia. Towards the end of 1509, Alonso de Ojeda arrived in the Darién Gap as governor of the province of New Andalusia which included the Darién Gap. He was commanding an expedition that left Hispaniola, made up of 300 men, with which he founded the settlement of San Sebastián de Urabá, near the present locality of Necoclí, Antioquia. The native inhabitants were hostile to the Spaniards. They refused to trade food with them and frequently attacked them. Eight months after Ojeda left Hispaniola and founded San Sebastián, the situation in the fort was no longer tenable. Of the 300 men who had initially arrived with Ojeda only 42 survivors remained in the settlement. (en)
