- Aparición del apóstol San Pedro a San Pedro Nolasco es un cuadro de Francisco de Zurbarán pintado en 1629 y conservado en el Museo del Prado de Madrid, España. Está pintado al óleo sobre lienzo, mide 179 cm de alto por 223 de ancho y forma pareja con Visión de San Pedro Nolasco. En la zona inferior está firmado y fechado: FRANCISCUS Đ ZURBARAN [con A inscrita en la N]/ FACIEBAT. 16Z9 El cuadro representa a San Pedro apareciéndose y consolando a San Pedro Nolasco ya que este quería ir a Roma para visitar la tumba del apóstol y no podía, y conminándole a continuar sus tareas de evangelización en España. La obra, junto con su compañera Visión de San Pedro Nolasco, de las mismas medidas, fue realizada para el claustro del Convento de la Merced Calzada de Sevilla (actual edificio del Museo de Bellas Artes). En ellas el pintor extremeño muestra su habilidad para plasmar la expresión de las figuras, los valores táctiles y calidad de las texturas y el cromatismo de blancos y grises en composiciones austeras. En 1808 este lienzo y el citado con el que forma pareja fueron comprados por Manuel López Cepero, más tarde deán de la Catedral de Sevilla, que en 1821 los entregó a la colección del rey Fernando VII a cambio de un Retrato de Mariana de Austria que se creyó original de Diego Velázquez y resultó ser copia. - Saint Peter Nolasco's Vision of Saint Peter the Apostle is a 1629 painting by Francisco de Zurbarán, now in the Prado Museum in Madrid. It is signed at the bottom FRANCISCUS Đ ZURBARAN/ FACIEBAT. 1629.. It shows Peter the Apostle crucified upside-down appearing to Peter Nolasco, founder of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, which redeemed Christian slaves from Muslim owners during the Reconquista period in Spanish history. When he was prevented from making a hoped-for trip to Rome to visit St Peter's tomb, he received a consolatory vision from St Peter instructing him to convert Spain. It forms a pair with the same artist's The Vision of Saint Peter Nolasco, in which the saint dreams of the Heavenly Jerusalem. Both works were produced the year after Nolasco's canonisation for the Convent of Mercy in Seville, which he had founded and which now houses the city's Museum of Fine Arts. The two works formed part of a group of 22 paintings commissioned by the monastery from various artists to mark the canonisation - only eleven now survive. In 1808 the work was bought by , dean of Seville Cathedral, who thirteen years later gave it to Ferdinand VII of Spain. (en)

Zakon mercedariuszy w Sewilli zamówił u Francisco de Zurbarána 22 obrazy poświęcone założycielowi zakonu Piotrowi Nolasco z okazji jego kanonizacji. Tylko nieliczne płótna zachowały się do dziś. Obraz Objawienie apostoła Piotra przed świętym Piotrem Nolasco przypomina epizod z życia Piotra Nolasco, który latami planował pielgrzymkę do grobu św. Piotra. Obowiązki zakonne nie pozwalały mu jednak udać się do Rzymu. Św. Piotr apostoł ukazał w scenie swojej śmierci ukrzyżowany głową w dół i przypomniał Piotrowi Nolasco, że Chrystus oczekuje od niego przede wszystkim działań na rzecz uwolnienia Półwyspu Iberyjskiego od Maurów. Malarz przedstawił scenę objawienia w bliżej nieokreślonym pomieszczeniu. Piotr Nolasco klęczy i ma oczy półzamknięte. Wizja świętego Piotra jest wydzielona z ziemskiej rzeczywistości rudą poświatą. Od postaci apostoła bije światło modelujące szaty zakonnika. Prostota kompozycji wymusza na widzu koncentrację uwagi na mistycznym aspekcie obrazu. (pl)
