- Saint-Estèphe ist ein klassifiziertes Weinbaugebiet im Bordeaux, Frankreich mit insgesamt 1250 Hektar Fläche. Die Gemeinde Saint-Estèphe ist die nördlichste der vier Orts-Appellationen; die anderen Orts-Appellationen des Médoc sind Pauillac, Saint-Julien und Margaux. Von den über fünfzig Weingütern in Saint-Estèphe gehören fünf Güter zu den Grand-Cru-zertifizierten. Dies sind Château Cos d’Estournel und Château Montrose, beide 2ième Grand Cru und im Süden nahe der Ortsgrenze zur Nachbar-Gemeinde Pauillac gelegen, Château Calon-Ségur (3ième Grand Cru), Château Lafon-Rochet (4ième Grand Cru) und Château Cos Labory (5ième Grand Cru). Die Weine von Saint-Estèphe werden allgemein als etwas kräftiger, säurehaltiger und strenger befunden als die anderen Weine von der Médoc-Halbinsel; schon winzige, kleinklimatische Verschiebungen weniger Kilometer lassen sich im Wein erschmecken. Viele Weingüter bringen darum auch mehr von der früher ausreifenden Merlot-Rebe in ihre Cuvées ein, was die Weine runder, süffiger und früher trinkreif macht. (de)

Se trata de un vino tinto proveniente de la comuna de Saint-Estèphe. Las variedades autorizadas son: cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, carménère, merlot, malbec y petit verdot. Los vinos deben provenir de mostos que contengan un mínimo y antes de todo enriquecimiento o concentración de 178 gramos de azúcar natural por litro y presenten, después de la fermentación, un grado alcohólico mínimo de 10,5º. La producción no puede exceder de 45 hectolitros por hectárea de viña en producción. La producción media anual de esta denominación es de 70.000 hectolitros, y la superficie declarada la de 1.200 hectáreas. (es)
