- تقع كلية رويال ناشونال كوليدج للمكفوفين للتعليم ما بعد الثانوي... في مدينة هيرفورد الإنجليزية، وتضم الطلاب من كلا الجنسين مع إقامتهم فيها. فطلابها هم من المكفوفين تمامًا أو من ضعاف البصر. فبإمكانهم هناك أن يتلقوا ويتعلموا محموعة واسعة من المهارات مثل اللغة الإنجيزية والرياضيات بالإضافة إلى الموضوعات المهنية مثل الفنون المسرحية. وإلى جانب الموضوعات الاعتيادية للتعليم الإضافي (التعليم ما بعد الثانوي) وكذلك التدريب المهني، فإن هذه الكلية تقدم برامج تدريبية في الاعتماد على النفس وتنمية الشخصية. ووفي عام 2008, بلغ عدد الطلاب في هذه الكلية 196 طالبًا تبدأ أعمارهم من 16 عامًا فصاعدًا. و كانت هذه الكلية تمارس نشاطها في عدد من المنازل قبل أن يُنشا لها حرم جامعي في مدينة هيرفورد. وفي عام 1871 أُسست هذه الكلية تحت اسم «ذا رويال نورمال كوليدج آند أكاديمي فور ذا بلاند» (كلية وأكاديمية رويال نورمال للمكفوفين), وغُيِرَ اسمها في أواخر السبعينيات من القرن الماضي لتُعرف باسم «رويال ناشونال الكوليدج للمكفوفين». تعد هذه الكلية من الكليات الرائدة في مجال تعليم المكفوفين في بريطانيا منذ العصر الفكتوري، ولكنها منذ عام 2010 وهي تعد الكلية الوحيدة التي تُعنى بتعليم المكفوفين في المملكة المتحدة التي كُرِمت بحصولها على الدرحة التنويرية (بيكن ستيتس), اعترافًا بجدارتها في التدريس. تعتبر كلية رويال ناشونال الكوليدج للمكفوفين المعقل الأول لأكاديمية كرة القدم لضعاف البصر وفريق إنجلترا لكرة القدم من المكفوفين. وقد استضافت الكلية في عام 2010 البطولة العالمية لكرة القدم للمكفوفين. كما تساهم الكلية بقوة في تطوير المعدات التكنولوجية لتساعد المكفوفين في حياتهم اليومية. ومن الأجهزة الأكثر تطورًا التي كان للكلية دور في تطوريها جهازي «ماونتباتن بريلر» وهو جهاز إلكتروني يستخدم طريقة بريل، وأما الأخر فهو جهاز تي ثري (RCN), وهو جهاز ناطق ويعمل باللمس الذي من شأنه أن يساعد في قراءة الخرائط والرسوم البيانية. و لقد كانت الفترة الأخيرة من العقد الأول للقرن 21 مَدعاةً للجدل في تاريخ هذه الكلية، لما شهدته من إعادة تشكيل الإدارات وتغيرٍ في المناهج الدراسية المقدمة للطلاب فضلا عن عمليات التطوير والتحديث الكبيرة في الحرم الجامعي بهيرفورد. والحرم الجامعي الذي يقع في شارع كوليدج رود في مخدينة هيرفورد به منازل تستخدم لأغراض التدريس والإقامة وتستخدم أيضا كمرافق ترفيهية. الطلاب يمكنهم النوم في الأماكن المخصصة لذلك ويمكنهم أيضًا النوم في المنازل الموجودة بالحرم الجامعي، التي تجعلهم يكتسبون قدرًا من مهرات الاعتماد على النفس داخل نطاق الكلية. كما قامت الكلية ببناء منشأةٍ ترفيهيةٍ تعرف باسم «بوينت فور» وهي مفتوحة للعامة أيضًا. بالإضافة إلى أن أعمال المؤسسة الخيرية الوطنية «بلايند آرت» تقع هناك. وتشغل شيلا تولِن منصب الرئيس التنفيذي للكلية وكان ذلك اعتبارًا من 2012, حيث تسلمت المنصب من أسلافها في سبتمبر عام 2011. الكلية هي مؤسسة خيرية مسجلة تحت رعاية الأمير تشارلز أمير ويلز. كما يوجد أيضًا عدد أخر من الداعمين الأغنياء والباريزين. ومن بين خريجي هذه الكلية هناك أُناس مشهورون فمثلا من بينهم وزير الداخلية السابق ديفيد بلانكيت.في عام 2007 كانت الكلية مادة سلسلة الأفلام الوثائقية لبرنامج «كاتنج إيدج» التابع للقناة الرابعة البريطانية، والذي سرد وتتبع حياة ثلاثة طلاب منذ بداية أول فصل دراسي لهم. ولقد حاز الفلم على جائزة «الجمعية الملكية للتلفزيون» عام 2008. - The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) is a co-educational specialist residential college of further education based in the English city of Hereford. Students who attend the college are aged 16 to 25 and blind or partially sighted. They can study a wide range of qualifications at RNC, from academic subjects such as English and Mathematics to more vocational topics such as Massage and Complementary Therapies. Alongside regular further education subjects and vocational training, the college offers training in mobility, assistive technology, Braille, independent living skills and personal development. Founded in 1872 in London as the Royal Normal College and Academy for the Blind, the college had a number of homes before moving to its campus in Hereford; it was renamed The Royal National College for the Blind in the late 1970s. It has been a pioneer in the education of visually impaired people in Britain since the Victorian era, and, as of 2010, is the only college for visually impaired students in the United Kingdom to have been awarded Beacon Status in recognition of its outstanding teaching and learning. RNC hosts the UK's first VI Sports Academy, having begun as the home of the first football academy for visually impaired players and the England blind football team. It hosted the 2010 World Blind Football Championship and also served as a training facility for participants in the 2012 Paralympic Games. The college is actively involved in the development of assistive technology, including student participation in the Tech Novice Cafe, run for members of the public who are not confident in computer use.
