L'attraction consiste en une sorte de boîte circulaire. Les passagers prennent place à l'intérieur de celle-ci sur toute la surface des bords. La machine mise en route, effectue une rotation à vitesse rapide, la force centrifuge plaque les passagers contre les parois. L'attraction est alors inclinée entre 50° et 75°. Elle est impressionnante de l'extérieur puisqu'elle présente des personnes à peine tenues par un simple ceinture, dans une position qui (sans la force centrifuge) serait impossible. Le mot « round-up » vient de l'action que les cow-boys et vaqueros exécutent avec leur lasso pour attraper le bétail. Le mouvement de rotation fait par l'attraction rappelle celui de la corde. (fr)
- Round Up is an amusement ride consisting of a circular horizontal platform with a vertical cage-like wall around the edge. The platform is attached to a motor on a hydraulic arm. The ride starts out by spinning until the centrifugal force is enough to push riders against the wall. Then the arm raises the horizontal platform to a vertical position in which riders, instead of spinning horizontally, are now spinning almost vertically. The ride spins for a predetermined cycle until an automatic timer releases the hydraulic fluid from the arm, causing the platform to return to its horizontal position. The operator may be required to manually control the spin of the ride so that its exit aligns correctly with the exit gate. Most require the rider to be at least 42 inches tall. In the United Kingdom, this ride is commonly known as the Meteor or Meteorite. The first such ride to arrive in that same country was with Rose Brothers in the 1950s and it came from Germany. Although Hrubetz examples exist in the United Kingdom, other common makers include Cadoxton and Sam Ward. There are 70 Round Ups in the United States, 40 in the United Kingdom and 20 in Australia. - De Round-up is een attractietype dat af en toe te vinden is op kermissen en in pretparken. Het is een draaiende attractie: bezoekers nemen staand plaats in een grote kom die steeds sneller gaat ronddraaien. De attractie maakt gebruik van centrifugale kracht. Tot zover komt dit overeen met het attractietype rotor. Echter, als het draaien op gang is gekomen tilt een hydraulische arm de gehele kom schuin omhoog, waardoor de draaiende kom schuin komt te staan. De arm tilt de kom meestal op totdat het geheel nét niet verticaal staat (hiermee meer lijkend op de enterprise, maar met als belangrijkste verschil dat men in de round-up moet staan terwijl men in de enterprise moet liggen of zitten).
